A2 Leidsche Rijntunnel - Utrecht - emergency doors

The project

The Leidsche Rijntunnel is a traffic tunnel of the A2 road in the Leidsche Rijn district of Utrecht. The tunnel is designed to easily connect the old part of Utrecht and the new Leidsche Rijn district and contribute to a good traffic flow. The tunnel is 1.6 kilometers long and can accommodate 67.5 million vehicles annually. The tunnel was put into operation in 2012. The Leidsche Rijntunnel is the first tunnel in the Netherlands to be built in accordance with the strict safety requirements of the new Tunnel Act. This safety system has been the standard for tunnels since 2013.

Our contribution

Emergency doors are an important part of these safety requirements. Here NESTcoat did the pre-treatment before the emergency doors were recoated on site. The affected coating was carefully removed by us so that the renovation could be carried out properly. By improving the conservation condition of the emergency doors, we contribute to safety.
